2022 Disbanded Groups

There is no disputing that the K-pop industry is currently one of the most competitive industries to ever exist, especially with new and upcoming groups debuting every week. Numerous brilliant K-pop acts have made their debuts and comebacks so far, much to the joy of the fans.

Having said that, saying goodbye is never simple, especially when it involves your favourite K-pop artists. In 2022, there will be many new K-pop artists and groups to stan, but there will also be some groups that fans will have to say goodbye to. Here is a list of a few bands that faced this unfortunate news and disbanded in 2022.

APRIL (에이프릴) was a 6-member girl group under DSP Media. The group consists of Chaekyung, Chaewon, Naeun, Yena, Rachel, and Jinsol. APRIL debuted on August 24, 2015. DSP Media released an announcement stating that the group officially disbanded on January 28, 2022.

MAMADOL (Disbanded February 04, 2022)

Mamadol (M.M.D/마마돌) is a 6 member comeback project group under CJENM of moms who were stars but had to leave the entertainment industry due to childbirth and childcare. The group was made through the TvN reality show Mama the Idol. In order for this group to debut, the team of six women had to gather 2,000 fan club members and 20,000 followers on social media while also having to go through various vocal and dance performance missions in order to prove that they can still be idols. The group consists of: Sunye (ex-Wonder Girls), Kahi (ex-After School), Jungah (ex-Jewelry), Yang Eunji (ex-Baby V.O.X Re.V), Byul (soloist) and Hyun Jyuni (actress). They debuted on January 27th with the song WooAh Hip.

WeGirls (Disbanded March 08, 2022)

WeGirls

WeGirls (위걸스) was a South Korean girl group under Aftermoon Entertainment that debuted on August 31, 2018 with the single “On Air”. The latest line up consists of JungA, Yehana, Byeoljji, Kimi, Do Hayoon, and five more unrevealed members. They disbanded in early 2022.

NU’EST (Disbanded March 14, 2022)

NU’EST (뉴이스트) consists of 5 members: JR, Aron, Baekho, Minhyun, and Ren. The band debuted on March 15, 2012, under Pledis Entertainment. While Minhyun promoted as a member of WANNA ONE, the rest of the members promoted as a sub-unit called NU’EST W. (W comes from “Waiting”). As of May 25, 2020 Big Hit Ent. became Pledis’ major shareholder, but Pledis will continue to act as an independent label. Pledis announced that NU’EST will cap off their official activities on March 14, 2022.

TRCNG (Disbanded March 28, 2022)

TRCNG (티알씨엔지) was a boy group under TS Entertainment that consisting of 8 members: Jihun, Hayoung, Hakmin, Jisung, Hyunwoo, Siwoo, Hohyeon and Kangmin. TRCNG stands for Teen Rising Champion in a New Generation. They debuted on October 10, 2017, with the song “Spectrum”. On November 18, 2019, Taeseon and Wooyeop announced they have cancelled their contracts and they sued TS Entertainment for abuse and mismanagement. TRCNG’s contract was terminated on March 28, 2022, and the group disbanded after a three-year hiatus, according to TS Entertainment.

ARIAZ (Disbanded April 10, 2022)

ARIAZ (아리아즈) was a 6 member girl group (in the last period promoting as 5) under Star Empire subsidiary called Rising Star Entertainment, consisting of Yunji, Dawon, Sihyeon, Yeori and Hyogyeong. They made their official debut on October 24, 2019 with the mini album album “Grand Opera“. On September 15, 2021, it was announced that Jueun would be taking an indefinite hiatus from the group. On April 10, 2022 it was announced that ARIAZ has disbanded, after Hyogyeong, Yunji and Yeori terminated their contracts and left the company.

HOT ISSUE (핫이슈/Honest Outstanding Terrific Issue) was a 7 member girl group under S2 Entertainment. The group consists of: Nahyun, Mayna, Hyeongshin, Dana, Yewon, Yebin and Dain. They debuted on April 28, 2021 with the first mini-album Issue Maker and the title track 그라타타 (GRATATA). S2 Entertainment announced that the group would officially disband on April 22, 2022.

LUNARSOLAR (Disbanded May 22, 2022)

LUNARSOLAR (루나솔라), previously known as Rookie Planet (루기플래닛) and First Love (첫사랑), was a 4-member vocally based girl group under JPlanet Entertainment. The group consists of Eseo, Jian, Taeryeong, and Yuuri. They released their debut single “SOLAR : flare” on September 2, 2020. They officially disbanded on May 22, 2022.

G-reyish (그레이시) consisted of 4 members: Hyeji, Shinyoung, Yena, and Yeso. They debuted on June 1, 2017, under Hyuk&Company. They moved to BIGOCEAN ENM in January 2021. They officially disbanded on May 31, 2022.

CLC (씨엘씨) was a South Korean girl group under Cube Entertainment. The group debuted on March 19, 2015 with the mini-album “First Love” and title track “PePe“. On February 3, 2021, it was announced that Elkie left the group and agency. As of November 16, 2021, Sorn has terminated her contract and officially left the group & agency. On March 18, 2022 it was announced that Seungyeon and Yeeun also left the agency. The group had sadly disbanded on June 06, 2022, after their 1.5 year long hiatus.

REDSQUARE (레드스퀘어) (RSQ) was a five-member girl group under ICONIC MnE. The group consists of Green, Lina, ChaeA, Ari, and Bomin. They debuted on May 19, 2020, with the song “ColorFull“. They were originally signed to the label About Entertainment, but changed companies on December 31, 2020. They officially disbanded on June 10, 2022 after it was revealed that Green, ChaeA and Ari will redebut in IRRIS under Mellow Entertainment.

FAINIT (페이니티; stylized as F A I N I T) was a South Korean girl group under FAINIT Company. The group consisted of Jinseo, SeoA, Liha, Yumin, and Meanu. They made their official debut on June 13, 2022, with the single “KILLER”, but were a short-lived group as, according to a member’s friend, they disbanded on July 08, 2022.

I.C.E (아이스‬, International Center of Issue) was a KPOP group under HS Entertainment. I.C.E consists of 3 members: Kimmi, Dahye and Minju. They debuted on November 16, 2015 with their single “Over U”. They officially disbanded on July 20, 2022 since their contract ended, and there was no more activities.

DIA (Disbanded September 17, 2022)

DIA (다이아) currently consists of 6 members: Eunice, HuiHyeon, Yebin, Chaeyeon, Eunchae, JuEun. The band debuted on September 14, 2015, under MBK Entertainment. On January 9th, 2022, it was announced that Somyi has officially left the group. In September 17, 2022 it was announced that DIA left PocketDol Studio (MBK Entertainment & Interpark’s sub label), and the members went on their own separate ways in order to focus on their individual schedules.

HINT (힌트), formerly known as TURAN (투란) was a South Korean girl group that consisted of members Cherry, Hyejin, Arra, Haesol, and Nael. They debuted on July 10, 2013 under Star Pro Entertainment as TURAN and changed their name to HINT in mid 2017 with a new line up. They were under Swan Media Entertainment. The group disbanded on September 27, 2022.

BVNDIT (밴디트; Bandit; Be Ambitious N Do It) was a South Korean girl group under MNH Entertainment. The members are Yiyeon, Songhee, Jungwoo, Simyeong and Seungeun.They debuted on April 10, 2019 with the single “Hocus Pocus”. A disbandment announcement was made on November 11, 2022, however they officially disbanded on October 31, 2022.
