BTS’s RM Donates 100 Million Won To Preserve Korean Culture Assets

On September 15, the Cultural Heritage Administration and the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation announced that RM had recently donated 100 million won (~$71,800) to the foundation for the preservation, restoration, and utilization of cultural assets overseas.

Last year, RM also quietly delivered a donation of ₩100 million KRW (about $71,900 USD) in September to preserve and restore Korean cultural assets. The donation was used to preserve and restore the Joseon Dynasty Hwa-Ot (ceremonial garment worn by a princess or princess during the Joseon Dynasty) in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) in the United States.

After receiving the donation, the foundation stated that they have been working with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) to preserve the ‘hwarot’, a robe from the Joseon Dynasty currently owned by the LACMA. The ‘hwarot’ is a Korean traditional clothing worn by princesses and women of the royal family for ceremonies, during the Joseon Dynasty. The ‘hwarot’ became a popular clothing during the time, where brides from commoner families began to regularly wear them during their wedding. Currently, there are about 30 ‘hwarot’ pieces in South Korea, and 10 pieces in foreign countries.

In addition, RM has posted photos of him visiting art museums and galleries across the country on his Instagram. The museums that RM visited are gaining popularity by becoming known as part of the “RM Tour,” proving RM’s influence within the Korean art industry.
